Welcome to ADKArtsBoutique!
We are a family run business located in the village of Ballston Spa, New York. We are just 7 miles south of Saratoga Springs, 30 miles north of Albany, and 100 miles from Lake Placid.
Wilmington NY is where I grew up, 13 miles from Lake Placid in the heart of the high peak region of the Adirondack mountains. The ADK in our shop name stands for Adirondack.
The region is known for winter sports, the1932 & 1980 Winter Olympics, hiking, fishing, fall foliage. Everything the great outdoors has to offer in a big way. The Adirondack Park is the largest state-protected area in the United States. The park covers some 6.1 million acres which are roughly the size of Vermont. This is the place that no matter where I live I will always call home.
My name is Patti and in my shop, I hope to share with you, my love of the mountains and the crafts that I learned there. My Mom taught me how to sew, crochet, embroider, and do many various crafts. She put a crochet hook in my hand long before I have the memory of it. My sister thinks I had to be 2 or 3 years old. I love it more than any other craft.
I love the intricate designs of doilies, tablecloths, and runners done in cotton. The fun of making an afghan of broomstick lace using a real broomstick. The delight of making handbags that are unique and fun. The fun of making baby blankets that are warm, fun and functional in many ways. This is my dream to be able to share with the world my love for the traditional and contemporary uses of crochet art.
I met my husband Joe in Lake Placid in 1979. He is a professional photographer. He does our photography and is also our shipping department.
Larry Carter, Jr. is my very dear friend who is a master hand tooled leather artist here on Etsy. We have started a new line of handbags and purses that combine leather and crocheting. They are unique, fun, exciting and beautiful. They are all truly original and handmade. Larry or I design each bag with care and attention to detail. His shop here on Etsy sells hand tooled leather collars, wallets, belts and more. His work is spectacular and I am delighted to be in collaboration with him. His shop is:
